Intro Index

Welcome to the Jazzis Web Shop, the world's finest on-line music boutique! My name is Adam Baruch and I own and operate this site. I conceived and created this site based on 40 years of extensive experience as music producer, critic, journalist and record collector in order to share my passion for music with other people around the globe. I also designed and wrote the software that makes this site tick utilizing state of the art IT technology. The site first opened on July 7th, 2001 and I have been working my ass off ever since to make it the best site of it's kind on the Net . 1,209,861 visitors simply can't be wrong.

Principles Index

This site is completely different from any other music vendor you might ever come across on the Net. Although you can buy music here, I hope your visit will be also an educational experience. You will find here a carefully selected (actually hand-picked from tens of thousands of available items) catalog of items from all over the world, which represents what I consider to be some of the best music ever created on this planet. The idea is to collect the best music ever recorded without being limited by preconception and categorization. The only criterion I use when selecting the items present here is the quality of the music. The rule is simple: I keep only items I like and regard worthy of a quality music collection. Although the catalog of items covers many music genres, the majority of items belong to the Progressive Rock (Prog) and Jazz genres, the two music areas that I value as most creative and challenging.

Each and every one of the 3337 items found here is a source of deeply rewarding musical experiences. All items are described in depth, providing background information about the artists and the music, as well as my subjective analysis and recommendations. All items are also cross-referenced by hyperlinks, which turns browsing the site into a musical voyage (Warning! This can be extremely addictive). The site provides a plethora of features, most of which are unique to this site, designed to make your visit productive, enjoyable and above all educational.

I consider my customers a community of music lovers and the features provided by this site are meant to perform a service and to serve as a resource for that community.

What's The Difference? Index

Although Jazzis Web Shop operates under a business framework, it was never designed to perform as a money making venture. Whatever profits are made by the site's operation, these are immediately invested back in order to expand the catalog and add new items. I am not taking any salary nor am I making any personal profits or receiving any fringe benefits. If the site manages to balance its operational expenses and grow steadily, its financial goal is completely fulfilled.

This state of "financial independence" allows me to concentrate solely on the principle goal, i.e. educating people about good music, being completely independent form any limitations that a money-making policy might impose. I don't have to sell "popular", fashionable, disgusting music just to make a living. I can chose what I want to present to my customers based on esthetic and qualitative factors alone. There is no other on-line music vendor that operates under such condition AFAIK.

Jazzis Web Shop is not Amazon.com or any other monstrosity selling anything from condoms to yachts. I sell music and music only. This is a subject I know intimately and I can firmly stand behind each and every one of the items offered here because I've heard it, I know where it comes from (musically) and what it represents. Of course I don't offer a catalog of hundreds of thousands of items. Why should I? Good music is an extremely rare commodity and the last thing I'd like to do is to support the ocean of musical garbage that engulfs us all. It is a grueling task to select the true musical treasures from the vast amount of meaningless output that is produced by the music industry. I hope I've been successful in making these selections. Nobody else seems to care.

All the existing on-line music vendors belong to one of the two categories: they are either a corporate golem selling music in complete disregard of its quality or small independents, who care about the music but operate under severe financial and operational limitations. The corporate sites offer only music produced by the Major record companies (like Sony, Universal, etc.) and don't care one bit about the small independent labels, which put out most of the truly interesting music. The small vendors carry mostly stuff by the independent labels as they either can't afford or have no access to the stuff offered by the Majors. Jazzis Web Shop offers items from both sources with no limitations. If it's good music I get it, regardless of who manufactures it or wherever in the world it comes from. No other on-line vendor has these capabilities.

Goals & Features Index

As a reflection of the principles guiding this site I try to achieve the following goals:

  • To share my knowledge and experience with other music lovers around the world.
  • To offer the best possible price to my customers in order to enable them to purchase as much great music as they can afford.
  • To offer the best possible service to my customers in order to help them find whatever they are looking for and guide them in their quest for great music.
  • To offer support to independent artists (i.e. groups and musicians, who produce and release their albums on their own, rather then on established record labels) by distributing their albums to the world community of music lovers, hoping their music will be discovered and appreciated.

This site offers many unique features, which enable my customers not only to purchase music from me but also use this site as an educational resource. These features are:

  • In-depth description of items, cross-referenced across the entire catalog using hyperlinks, which enable a follow-through process of movement from one item to all related items in the catalog. The description includes recording dates, historical background and my subjective musical analysis, as well as detailed data about each item in the catalog including the record label, barcode number, packaging, genre, country and many more. The amount of information contained herein is of truly encyclopedic scope.
  • Extended browse capabilities (see Browse in the Header Menu).
  • Extended search capabilities (see Advanced Search in the Header Menu).
  • Streaming musical content (see Radio in the Header Menu)
  • Customer Waiting List (see Waiting List in the Header Menu).
  • Customer Wish List (see Wish List in the Header Menu).
  • Customer Rewards plan (see Rewards in the Header Menu).
Tips Index

It is recommended to view this site in full screen mode to ensure optimal results. Please maximize your browser's window! Please use the Header Menu (at the top of the screen) and the Footer Menu (at the bottom of the screen) to navigate. Use the Browse function in the Header Menu to browse the catalog. The shop's catalog is categorized by music genres. In each genre the items are ordered alphabetically by Artist and can be browsed by selecting the first letter of the Artist's name. You can also browse the catalog by categories or media types (see the Browse function) or perform complex searches, as well as move from one item to another by following the hyperlinks embedded in the item's description.

Most common questions are answered in the FAQ page (Footer Menu). If you have any more questions, suggestions, requests or anything else you'd like to share with me, please send me an e-mail to mail@jazzis.com, or use the Feedback page (Footer Menu). The direct contact with my customers is extremely important to me and by maintaining such contact I am convinced that I can provide you with better service.

Design Principles Index

The Jazzis Web Shop was designed with a "Mean & Lean" approach in mind, i.e. the primary objective was to design an Internet application that gives the user a fast and clear interface, but also one which is loaded with features and easy to use.

There are no flashy graphics or large graphic objects anywhere on the Jazzis Web Shop. Those features slow down Internet applications considerably and take ages to download, something I tried to eschew at all cost. However, I think that the graphic design of the Jazzis Web Shop is clean and elegant, just the way it should be. I hope you agree with me.

Technical Issues Index

The Jazzis Web Shop was extensively cross-browser tested before it was offered to my customers. Every time I change anything in the Jazzis Web Shop design or functionality, I test it to try to make sure it works perfectly. However, nobody is in fact perfect, so if you experience any problems while visiting the Jazzis Web Shop, I ask you kindly to send me an e-mail to mail@jazzis.com and notify me of these problems.

From my experience I can tell you that if you experience some "strange" and unexpected behavior while visiting the Jazzis Web Shop, the most likely reason is probably the fact that you are viewing old and incorrect pages that were stored by your browser in the Internet cache memory on your hard drive. I recommend that you use the browser's options and delete all the Temporary Internet Files and clear the browser's History. In most cases this alone will solve all of your problems.
